Elvis, 2022 - ★★★★★

Baz Luhrmann, you are my guy 4L. What an awesome movie. I'm sickened by the level of greatness that movie possessed. But I mean, who can be surprised? This was a Baz Luhrmann film after all. Austin Butler put his SOUL into his performance as Elvis Presley. What a beautiful film. Super duper kudos to the whole cast and crew. And I give a special shoutout to makeup as well as the editing crew. They did their thing! I know some will have complaints about the extravagance of the film, but 1) it's about Elvis, what did you expect? and 2) It's a Baz Luhrmann film, what did you expect? Baz Luhrmann was the perfect guy to make an Elvis movie, he completely gets how to put on a show, just like EP himself. - Letterboxd

    1. Ahh, dang! I wish I had known, it would have been so fun to see it together, and you could have used one of the free tickets my family has for the Cinemark in Fayetteville. I'm trying to watch Romeo + Juliet on HBO next because Baz Luhrmann has only directed 6 films and I love his distinctive style. After seeing Elvis, I'm officially putting him on my list of favorite directors which is James Gunn, Taika Waititi (just for his revamp of Thor), and now Baz! He's really cool because of his involvement in various aspects of movie production. For Elvis, he wrote, produced, and directed, not by himself of course, but it's still a high level of involvement, which is what he's known for. Definitely call/text me when you watch it, you're totally gonna love it and follow it up with an Elvis phase, which will be cool.

Boogie Nights, 1997 - ★★½ (contains spoilers)

This review may contain spoilers.  why… IDK there were just too many questions I was left with.  Weird movie, I do not get why. Why was this made? What was the point? fun movie, just not what i expected based on the movie & PTA’s reps. Very weird movie. I just feel like even a tiny little moment of introspection from Amber Waves where she ponders how she can call a boy her son while having sex and doing coke with him could have been beneficial. Throughout the movie, there were multiple moments where if characters just questioned themselves for a tiny second, there would be a better impact. Instead, the movie seems vapid. It was fun, sure, but to not address all the mess that happened in it is so weird to me. And some things, Idk their relevance at all. Betty Barnett, useless character. Why do we care about her husband, Raymond? I did like how Amber Waves was becoming a director, I feel like that could have also been addressed. Basically, I hate how the movie glosses over a...
